Leann Wilson selected as an Australian delegate at the UN Commission on the Status of Women event in New York.

Regional Economic Solutions Executive Director, Leann Wilson has been selected to join the official Australian Government delegation to the 61st Session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) being held in New York from 13 to 24 March 2017.

Leann, who accepted the offer to attend as a non-government delegate by Senator Michaelia Cash, Australian Minister for Employment, Minister for Women and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for the Public Service, was selected due to her extensive knowledge and experience, specifically in the area of ‘Empowerment of Indigenous women’ – a key topic of the CSW61 event.

Attending the event will provide Leann with the opportunity to engage with leaders from across the globe on critical issues relating to gender equality, share best practices and impact Australia’s engagement at this international forum on the advancement of women.

“It is a great honour to be selected to represent Australia at the CSW61. I see this as a great opportunity to help advance the status of women globally and continuing to raise awareness internationally and nationally of not only the issues but the strengths and grit of Indigenous women in Australia,” said Leann.

UN Women’s CSW61 event dates back to 1947 and is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality and the empowerment of women.
