Community engagement and business development
RES engages with all key stakeholders including business, government and Indigenous groups and communities. We seek to form a strong relationship and understand the needs and wants of each stakeholder. From this platform, we bring the stakeholders together by establishing clear goals and strategies that are beneficial to all stakeholders.
RES works with stakeholders to develop new agreements, or review existing agreements, relating to matters of importance to Indigenous groups including cultural heritage, engagement, employment and business development. This is executed in a way to engage all stakeholders, establish strong relationships with all parties and ensure that all parties’ needs are met.
RES facilitates workshops for a range of stakeholders. These workshops relate to cultural heritage, EIS requirements, employment, business development and project information sessions.
Training, up skilling and mentoring support to build culturally safe organisations
RES offers a range of Indigenous training programs including native title legal training, cultural heritage information and managing and mentoring Indigenous staff.
Native Title and Cultural Heritage Workshops
Regional Economic Solutions (RES) offers clients and individuals a number of one day workshops aimed to provide greater insight into the complex legislation impacting many Indigenous clients while equally supporting greater understanding enabling strengthened engagement and social performance outcomes. The workshops are designed by Josh Creamer, an Aboriginal Barrister practicing in Native Title, Commercial Law & Human Rights, Director, RES and Leann Wilson, Director and General Manager of RES.
The workshops address a number of key elements including a legal overview and discussion around key provisions of the Native Title Act 1993. Consideration is given to how native title fits within the concepts of Sovereignty and the Australian Torrens Title system of land tenure. Participants will be taken through the claim process, including authorisation, registration and determinations, with a special emphasis on the elements that Indigenous groups must prove to establish native title. Other topics discussed include the role of an applicant, disputes regarding claim group composition and Native Title Representative Bodies.
These workshops are intended for businesses operating in regional Australia and contain essential knowledge for those engaged in project management, construction, contract preparation and administration, permitting and social/community engagement. Participants are not required to have any legal knowledge of the topic to take away key messages.
Brokering Indigenous employment and business opportunities in order to deliver on employment targets
- RES engages strongly with key stakeholders including Indigenous groups, businesses and various levels of government.
- We identify the employment and business development opportunities available including clear skills sets required for each opportunity.
- We engage strongly with Indigenous groups and community to understand the aspirations and skills of local Indigenous people.
- We develop and plan with clear goals and strategies to match opportunities with people.
- We develop strategies for all pre-employment issues and undertake the relevant training.
- Finally, we implement the employment and business development program.
Assist clients deliver commitments
Where existing agreements are in place, RES seeks to clearly understand the nature of these agreements and the key aspects of these for both government and Indigenous groups and community. We work with all parties to ensure that the key aspects of the agreement are being implemented as intended to maximise the mutual outcome for all stakeholders.
Where agreements are not in place or if is advantageous to amend existing agreements, we assist in the process of developing new mutually beneficial agreements.
Mentoring of Indigenous stakeholders
RES engages and assesses Indigenous stakeholders to determine their strengths and gaps. We then develop and implement tailored and supportive mentoring programs.
