OZ Minerals’ Carrapateena Copper-Gold Project in South Australia’s Gawler Craton is the most recent Greenfields copper project in Australia and a project of global significance.

Regional Economic Solutions’ (RES) scope included overall engagement services including First Nation participation, employment, and procurement. Success on the project delivered 11% of the total ADJV construction workforce who were local Kokatha people (Traditional Owners) from the Port Augusta region. A significant proportion of hires were skilled labour roles such as riggers and boilermakers and these roles were transitioned from construction through to operations. First Nation local businesses were also used to supply into the various supply chain opportunities, for example, water trucks, bus drivers and delivery services to name a few.

RES’s deliberate intention was to create an environment that was culturally safe and respectful for the Kokatha community.
